attapulgite also called palygorskite, mineralogical classification belongs to family of sepiolite, is a kind of layer-chain structure of hydrous rich magnesium aluminum silicate clay mineral. attapulgite has great specific surface area and certain ion exchange performance, most of positive ions, water molecules, a certain size of organic molecules can be adsorbed into its pore canal. attapulgite has stable electrochemical performance, hard to be electrolytic flocculation, high stability at high temperatures and in salt water. widely used for desiccant, anti-blushing agent, adsorbent, catalyst support, bacteriostat support.

attapulgite clay desiccant working temperature should be under 50℃, if temperature over 50℃, water release is bigger than water uptake. but clay desiccant is very cheap, so it becomes one of main mineral desiccant in the world.

粘土干燥剂原料是凹凸棒石。凹凸棒石attapulgite，又名坡缕石或坡缕缟石palygorskite，矿物学分类上隶属于海泡石族，是一种层链状结构的含水富镁铝硅酸盐粘土矿物。凹凸棒石具有非常大的比表面积和一定的离子交换性，大部份的阳离子、水分子和一定大小的有机分子均可直接被吸附进孔道中；电化学性能稳定，不易被电解质所絮凝，在高温和盐水中稳定性良好。广泛用作干燥剂、防潮珠、吸附剂、催化剂载体和抗菌剂载体等。

粘土干燥剂是由凹凸棒石制成。粘土干燥剂的外观形状为灰色小球，Zui适宜在50℃以下的环境中吸湿。当温度高于50摄氏度时，粘土的“放水”程度便大于“吸水”程度，但粘土的优势在于价格便宜。粘土干燥剂因其低廉的价格，良好的吸附效果逐渐成为国际主流的矿物干燥剂原料之一。
