Open-FacedDesign

Open-Faced-Theopen-faceddesignincludesasubstratewithanopticalfiltercoatingononesurface.Open-facedfiltersmustbehandledwithcareasthesoftfiltercoatingisexposed.Potentialdamagefrommoisture,atmosphericcontaminantsorhandlingcanbereducedbysealingthe

filterwithaprotectivefusedsilicacover,asshownbelow(availableabove190nmonly).

Covered/EdgeSealedCovered/EdgeSealed-Filtersabove190nmmaybesuppliedwithafusedsilicacoverforprotectivepurposes.Asshowninthediagram,aspacerringisplacedbetweenthesubstratestoformasmallairgap,thentheedgesaresealed.Thisdesignenablesthefiltertobehandledwithoutriskoftouchingthedelicatefiltercoating.Pleasenotethatcoveringafilterdecreasesitstransmissionby2-3%.

Edgesealingaddsapproximately0.010”(0.254mm)tothediameterofthefilter.Totalthicknessforacoveredandedgesealedfilterisapproximatelytwicethatofanopen-faceddesign.ExactdimensionsareavailablefromtheOpticsSalesDepartment.

Mounted-CoverdesigninmountingringsMounted-Open-facedorcoveredfilters(withoutedgesealant)canbesuppliedinmetalmountingrings,ifdesired.Theringsareconstructedfromaluminumandareblackanodized.Mountingafilterreducesclearapertureandincreasestheoutsidediameterasoutlinedbelow.
