Properties of LCP: Since polypropylene is a continuous structure and LCP is a dispersed phase, the force exerted on the filament during drafting of PPLCP blend fibers is transferred to the LCP microfibers through the polypropylene phase. Under the effect of drawing force, the polypropylene phase in the blend fiber undergoes plastic deformation and the orientation degree of the molecule increases. LCP microfibers in blend fibers will break when the force exceeds a certain extent due to their long length. Assuming that the cross section of the microfibers is round and smooth, the axial drafting force is transferred from polypropylene to LCP microfibers by friction. For a certain length of microfibers, the axial tension is proportional to the friction coefficient between two phases and the diameter of microfibers: in formula, T is the axial tension of microfibers; D is the diameter of microfibers; L is the length of microfibers; f is the friction coefficient between two phases; F is the pressure on the surface of microfibers
Characteristic of LCP: In the bonding of composite materials,
there are many different sources of bonding force between two
phases, including adsorption force, mutual penetration,
electrostatic attraction, chemical bond, mechanical adhesion force,
etc. Because LCP and polypropylene are very different in structure,
the chemical attraction between the two phases is very small.
Microscopic observations show that the microfibers have very smooth
surfaces and rarely penetrate into each other. The bonding between
LCP microfibers and polypropylene is mainly through adsorption and
mechanical adhesion. Because the structure of microfibers has been
formed in the process of fiber forming, and the drawing temperature
is much lower than the melting point of microfibers, the relative
strength of microfibers should be relatively stable in the process
of drawing. The main factors determining the length of microfibers
are the friction coefficient between two phases and the surface
pressure on the microfibers.
