    石英砂是一种非金属矿物质，是一种坚硬、耐磨、化学性能稳定的硅酸盐矿物，其主要矿物成分是sio2，石英砂的颜色为乳白色、或无色半透明状，硬度7，石英砂是重要的工业矿物原料，非化学危险品，广泛用于玻璃、铸造、陶瓷及耐火材料、冶炼硅铁、冶金熔剂、冶金、建筑、化工、塑料、橡胶、磨料等工业。

普通石英砂，即sio2≥90—99% fe2o3≤0.06—0.02%，耐火度1750℃，外观部分大颗粒，表面有黄皮包囊。普通石英砂一般是采用天然石英矿石，经破碎，水洗，烘干，二次筛选而成的一种水处理滤料；该滤料具有：无杂质，无校角，密度大，机械强度高，载污能力线使用周期长的特点，是化学水处理的理想材料。粒度范围5—220目，可按用户要求粒度生产。主要用途：冶金，墨碳化硅，玻璃及玻璃制品，搪瓷，铸钢，水过滤，泡花碱，化工，喷吵等行业。
　　普通石英砂滤料起到过滤作用，就像水经过砂石渗透到地下一样，水中的那些悬浮物阻拦下来，主要针对那些细微的悬浮物。石英砂技术己达国内领先水平。
    精制品种，又称酸洗石英砂，sio2≥99—99.5% fe2o3≤0.005%，采用优质天然石英砂，经过精心挑选，精细石英砂加工而成。粒度范围1—0.5mm、0.5—0.1mm、0.1—0.01mm、0.01—0.005mm，可按用户要求加工。

    用途：制造玻璃，耐火材料，冶炼硅铁，冶金熔剂，陶瓷，研磨材料，铸造造型石英砂等方面，在建筑中利用其有很强的抗酸性介质浸蚀能力，制取耐酸混凝土及耐酸砂浆。
　　精制石英砂sio2≥99—99.5% fe2o3≤0.02—0.015%，精选优质矿石进行复杂加工而成。粒度范围用5—480目，可按用户要求生产，外观白色或结晶状。主要用途：玻璃，玻璃制品，耐火材料，熔炼石类，精密铸造，砂轮磨材等。

　　石英砂的具体应用表现为：

一、玻璃：平板玻璃、浮法玻璃、玻璃制品（玻璃罐、玻璃瓶、玻璃管等）、光学玻璃、玻璃纤维、玻璃仪器、导电玻璃、玻璃布及防射线特种玻璃等的主要原料。

二、陶瓷及耐火材料：瓷器的胚料和釉料，窑炉用高硅砖、普通硅砖以及碳化硅等的原料。

三、冶金：硅金属、硅铁合金和硅铝合金等的原料或添加剂、熔剂。

四、建筑：混凝土、胶凝材料、筑路材料、人造大理石、水泥物理性能检验材料（即水泥标准砂）等。 　 五、化工：硅化合物和水玻璃等的原料，硫酸塔的填充物，无定形二氧化硅微粉。

六、机械：铸造型砂的主要原料，研磨材料（喷砂、硬研磨纸、砂纸、砂布等）。

七、电子：高纯度金属硅、通讯用光纤等。

八、橡胶、塑料：填料（可提高耐磨性）。

九、涂料：填料（可提高涂料的耐酸性）。

十、航空、航天：其内在分子链结构、晶体形状和晶格变化规律，使其具有的耐高温、热膨胀系数小、高度绝缘、耐腐蚀、压电效应、谐振效应以及其独特的光学特性。
