tungsten wire is a very popular material as the bulb filament. tungsten has a high mechanical strength even in a high temperature environment. it has the melting point of 3410 degree c, the highest among all metals, low vapor pressure, high mechanical strength, and low out-gas at high temperature. thin tungsten wire is heated and worked using a diamond dice with black lead as a lubricant.
